Wortley Wagyu

About us

The Farm

Wortley Wagyu was established in 2020. We are a small, family-run business dedicated to producing the highest quality beef possible. We take great pride in the work that we do here on the farm. Wagyu is the most luxurious beef in the world, renowned for its luscious, mouth-watering flavour. Our Japanese Black Cattle are slow grown and grass-fed to maturity to produce the best quality and taste possible.

The farm is situated in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside and our farm shop is open to the public! Make sure to stop by to say hello and pick up your favourite cuts of beef. We’re happy to chat and answer any of the questions you might have about Wagyu.

History of Wagyu

The history of Japanese black cattle can be traced back 20,000 years to Japan. Originally bred for work purposes, they are now considered a national treasure of the nation and have only been consumed in the last 200 years.

What makes Wagyu superior to other beef?

Wagyu is distinctly different from other types of beef because it is highly marbled. Due to the unique genetics of the breed, the meat contains a higher percentage of fatty acids than ordinary beef which gives it a higher marbling score. The higher the marbling score, the more flavoursome, tender, and juicy the meat is; Wagyu has the highest marbling score of any beef in the world. It also contains a higher percentage of omega-3 and omega-6 than any other beef, both of which are essential for a healthy diet. The fat has a low melting point causing it to melt into the meat when cooked. This makes the meat more succulent and tender than other beef and produces the iconic rich flavour of Wagyu.
